A1GP season to open at Surfers

The fifth season of A1GP will open with a round at Surfers Paradise in Australia this October.

The series' deal to host an event in the Gold Coast was agreed in November last year, but it has now been confirmed as the first race of the 2009/10 championship on October 25.A1GP will join the Australian V8 Supercar championship on the bill, which previously featured a Champ Car round between 1991 and 2007 until the reunification of IndyCar and Champ Car at the beginning of 2008.

Surfers Paradise promoter Greg Hooton said: "It's fantastic to be the first event of the 2009/2010 A1GP season and everyone here is looking forward to hosting the World Cup of Motorsport on the Gold Coast."
