Alonso: Brawn could go even faster

Fernando Alonso believes the championship-dominating Brawn team is not showing its full hand and could be winning by even larger margins.

Jenson Button has now won five of the first six races of 2009, giving the Briton and his team comfortable championship leads - and double title-winner Alonso reckons it is coming quite easily to Jenson. "I think Brawn is not pushing 100 per cent through all the race,"

Alonso said. "If you see the lap times from the whole race, you clearly see where they push hard and where they control the race. "Brawn always has something in hand to do something more." The Spaniard said the Brawn package appeared perfect at present. "It's the best car, there is no doubt," he said.

"It's good aerodynamically and it has good mechnical grip - they can really attack the kerbs. "They have a very strong car and they finish all the races, both cars, with no mechanical problems. "It is difficult to beat them at the moment as it's difficult find that weak point where you can really stretch them. "They are the best in every area, so that's quite impressive." Button has refused to get complacent about his title prospects and insists he will not start thinking of himself as champion yet - but Alonso reckons the title is all but decided. "There is a possibility that if Jenson continues winning the championship will be mathematically over after 12 or 13 races, and for us much earlier than that, unfortunately," said the Renault driver. Alonso added that while he thought Button's success was fully earned, he felt it a shame that the Briton did not have any close rivals. "It's good for him obviously, but it's a shame because it has been very, very nice to see the last two championships decided at the last race," said Alonso. "That was quite good for the sport and the spectators, people loved this type of fight, and this year I won't see that it is boring, but you know... "At the end the best always win and Jenson has been by far the best in the first half of the season - and if he continues at this level he will be champion very soon. "Even if it's the closest ever championship in terms of lap times, you see in the championship there is two Brawns, two Red Bulls, two Toyotas and blah, blah, blah... "It is team by team basically, so that is something that the new rules didn't achieve this year. "Even if the times are very close, the championship order is not mixed like we saw last year for example, when one race McLaren won, then Ferrari, then BMW, and at the end it was (Robert) Kubica, (Lewis) Hamilton and (Felipe) Massa - so three different teams fighting for the championship. "This year is more a fight between team-mates, so that's not good."
