If you simply looked at the result of the British Grand Prix – which Lewis Hamilton won ahead of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg – you could be forgiven for thinking it had been another boring race.

But there was so much more to it than that in a wild race at Silverstone. Here’s how the fans were reacting to what was the most exciting race of the season…

With Hamilton on poll, it could have been a parade in front of his home fans but it didn’t turn out that way – it was the Williams of Felipe Massa that stormed into the lead from the start.

Here’s what it looked like.

Meanwhile, there was more bad news for another home driver as Jesnon Button’s miserable season continued. He crashed out on the first turn.

Fans felt for the McLaren driver.

It could have been a significant moment.

Back on the track, fans had hope for a rare entertaining race.

And it opened up even more as Hamilton attempted to overtake Massa and got it horribly wrong.

Even from third position, the bookies still had him as favourite.

Hamilton was struggling to touch the two Williams cars on the track.

Now it was all about those pit stops.

But it wasn’t Williams who nailed it.

There was more drama on the way though – after days of glorious sunshine, the rain was on the way.

As the rain came it was all a question of tyres. And in a move that took everyone by surprise, with the track still pretty dry, Hamilton came in for a change.

It proved to be an absolute master stroke.

And the superiority of the Mercedes was clear to see in the challenging conditions.

Finally, despite all the shenanigans of the previous 90 minutes, the race looked pretty much like every other race this season.

And from there, there was no doubt about what would happen.

F1 fans were happy finally to have seen a proper race.

For Williams, who ended up fourth and fifth, it was time for an inquest.

But for Hamilton and his fans, there was nothing but joy.
