Fernando Alonso: if you want to watch overtaking forget about Formula One

The Spaniard, clearly exasperated at the constant questioning of the rules and regulations in the wake of a turgid opening race to the season in Bahrain last month, pointed out that F1 had long since had this problem and argued that overtaking was not what made the sport special. "Last year was a fantastic championship and I don't think we saw much overtaking. This is nothing new this year with new rules or no refuelling. In F1 there has been no overtaking for 20 years." Alonso added that he felt the Mercedes of Michael Schumacher would "come back very strong" at some point this season, "maybe here, maybe China, maybe Barcelona".
