Ferrari 'hasn't shown its pace yet'
Ferrari duo Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa expect to be in the thick of a wide-open fight for pole position in tomorrow's Bahrain Grand Prix, having not tried qualifying runs at all on the opening day.Alonso was second in the morning, with Massa the best of the Ferraris in seventh later on - but both said they had yet to show what their car could do when flat-out.When asked what result he expected from qualifying, Massa replied that it was still too early to say for sure."I think we had a good day today preparing for the race," said Massa."It's impossible to answer the question because we never tried qualifying today. "I hope tomorrow we are there fighting for the pole position, but it's quite difficult to answer now."Alonso agreed that so far Ferrari's focus had been on preparing for a flawless grand prix rather than the pole fight."It was the first day we ran in hot conditions so we had some things to evaluate and check," he said."I have no idea [about form] - I think it's still completely unknown for everybody."Any of the four big teams can be on pole."I'm sure there will be some surprises - Force India seems quite quick on this kind of circuit - and some negative surprises as well."Our expectation is still strong form tomorrow in qualifying and hopefully to finish with as many points as possible in the race."He acknowledged that he was still extremely happy with the new Ferrari's performance."We are in a position to attack 100 per cent and we are confident with the car," said Alonso."We need to make some changes overnight to improve grip a little bit, but it has been a very normal Friday, so that's positive."
