Ferrari told to avoid complacency

Date published : 24 Mar 2010 - 17:19:07

Luca di Montezemolo and Fernando Alonso have warned Ferrari against complacency following the perfect start to the team's title challenge. The Maranello outfit heads into this weekend's second round in Melbourne looking to build on the 1-2 finish it achieved at the season-opener in Bahrain, with its F10 so far having looked the car to beat along with Red Bull's RB6.But its two most high-profile figures president di Montezemolo and new star signing Alonso insist the squad must not be carried away by its performance at the first race and instead has to keep working hard to improve its car further.Di Montezemolo said: "We need some great humility in this race [the Australian GP]. We know that we have to work and there is still lots to be improved, such as performance and reliability: it's important to stay realistic.Bahrain victor and early championship leader Alonso says that while the team may have a great platform from which to build in 2010, it starts from square one again in Australia. The one-two win in Sakhir gave us confidence and was a great result for the hard work during the winter on the track and at the works, but we can't take anything for granted, the Spaniard wrote in his blog on Ferrari's website. We have to stay with our feet on the ground, keeping calm and staying concentrated: in Melbourne we're starting from square one. Nothing has changed for me: there are four teams and eight drivers who can fight for victory and we have to give it our all to stay ahead of everybody else. After its Bahrain 1-2 was built on a strong qualifying performance, di Montezemolo has called for more of the same at Albert Park particularly since overtaking opportunities are likely to be limited once more.In Melbourne it will be fundamental to have a good qualifying on Saturday, because as usual on city circuits, also here in Australia to start from the front will determine the final outcome," he said.
