Japanese Grand Prix: Brawn inch closer to title after Mark Webber crashes out

Date published : 03 Oct 2009 - 07:22:28

Red Bull need to score seven points more than Brawn in Sunday's grand prix to prevent Brawn from taking the title with two races to spare. The Australian damaged his car when he hit the barriers in the morning session at Suzuka, forcing the team to change his chassis.  Related ArticlesButton gears up for push at greatness in SuzukaFerrari and Massa drop Singapore appeal threatHamilton: I won title fairlyButton eyes clean title fightSuzuka's circuit can be lethalButton: title race will go to wireWith not enough time for that to be done before qualifying, he will start the race in last place and from the pitlane. "You think of the preparation that goes into a weekend like this, so to not have the opportunity to do the race from a decent grid position is very tough for all of us - especially the guys in the garage," said Webber. "It wasn't a big crash by any means, but it did too much damage to the chassis, so we have to change it. "We don't have spare cars these days, so that's the outcome and it's a shame. We made a few changes to the car for the final run and I lost control when it bottomed out through Turn Eight." Team principal Christian Horner added that the new chassis would have to be checked over by race scrutineers on Sunday morning and confirmed that the driver would be starting from the pitlane. "So, not a good start to the weekend," he said.
