Jenson Button is fit to participate for the remainder of the German Grand Prix weekend after he was taken to hospital with an eye complaint.

Button, the 2009 world champion, missed the final 20 minutes of the final one-and-a-half-hour practice session at Hockenheim on Friday with the issue.

The 36-year-old was taken to the on-track medical centre before being sent to Mannheim hospital, 15 miles north of the circuit.

But following a brief examination, Button returned to the track with the issue resolved.

"On my way back to Hockenheim from the Mannheim hospital for an eye examination," Button tweeted. "Foreign body found and removed. All good for tomorrow."

Button finished eighth in second practice, two places ahead of his McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso on Friday.

The Englishman has 13 points this season following only four top-10 finishes from the opening 11 rounds.
