Kamui Kobayashi will keep his seat at Caterham for his home Japanese Grand Prix this weekend, the team has confirmed.

Kobayashi's place in the team has been confirmed only on a race-to-race basis since the Belgian Grand Prix.

"I'm very excited to be back in front of all my Japanese fans and racing at Suzuka," said the delighted Japanese. "I've been waiting for this race for over a year!"

The team also said reserve driver Roberto Merhi will take part again in practice on Friday.

"I only have positive feelings going into this weekend," Kobayashi said.

"Unfortunately, this year I have to admit that I won't be fighting for a podium, but I will do my best to reward my fans with a strong performance in order to thank them for their enormous support."
