Kobayashi to deputise for Glock again

Date published : 27 Oct 2009 - 09:40:50

Kamui Kobayashi will get a second chance to impress Toyota s bosses in Abu Dhabi this weekend after the team confirmed the injured Timo Glock would not return for the season finale.Glock was forced to sit out the Brazilian Grand Prix after suffering a cracked vertebra and a cut leg in a heavy crash at Suzuka earlier this month but the team had hoped he would return for the final race. However, Toyota confirmed on Tuesday morning that together with Glock it had decided not to take a risk on the German's fitness and that Japanese youngster Kobayashi would continue to deputise having shown promise in his debut weekend at Interlagos."We feel genuinely sorry for Timo that his season, which has included two impressive podium finishes, is ending in this way, Toyota team president John Howett said. Having discussed the medical advice with Timo and his management, the team has decided to take no risk and to put Kamui in the car. Kamui performed well in Brazil in difficult circumstances so we are happy to ask him to once again deputise."Reigning GP2 Asia champion Kobayashi, who has been Toyota s test driver for the past two seasons, qualified an impressive 11th at Interlagos two weeks ago before just missing out on points in ninth in the race.It remains unclear whether Glock will continue to race for Toyota in 2010 with the team not set to make a decision on its driver line-up until its parent company's main board signs off its full F1 budget in November.
