Kubica: No more doubts about Renault

Date published : 01 Feb 2010 - 12:35:00

Robert Kubica says he has got over his uncertainties about Renault's revised structure and reckons the new management has what it takes to bring the team back to the top.Former BMW driver Kubica signed for Renault as the fall-out from the Singapore 2008 scandal and the departure of former bosses Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds was still unfolding. The team was subsequently reconstituted with new partner Gerard Lopez's Genii organisation taking a majority stake and Eric Boullier coming in as team boss.As the changes developed, Kubica's management said the Pole urgently needed to know more about the implications of the restructuring - but Kubica insisted he was now quite happy with the shape of Renault."I think there has been quite a lot of changes over the winter, not many but a few very significant," he said."But after a few uncertain days, we did quite like the idea of the approach of the new owners of the team and the way the team will approach the season. "So it was quite easy [to stay] especially as I visited the factory a few times during the winter and I liked the way the team works and how it looks."He said he never believed rumours that Renault would pull-out of Formula 1 completely after it signed him for 2010."I think we can see many things happened during the winter and there were many uncertainties," said Kubica."The general feeling was always good, I never had really to worry about the possibility of Renault retiring [from Formula 1]."Renault lost several sponsors last season, but Kubica is not concerned about the resources available at his new outfit."I am convinced about the people we have with the team," he said. "I really liked how I spent the three or four days at the workshop, so I was quite relaxed about the technical side of the team."Of course, if there had been no money or no team to run it then it would have been a different story."But I think I knew a bit more than maybe some other people know so I was sleeping quite well."
