Lada agrees Renault sponsorship deal

Date published : 04 Mar 2010 - 11:06:51

Renault has announced that its cars will carry Lada branding in the 2010 season after signing a landmark deal with the Russian carmaker earlier this week. The Enstone-based squad, which is now majority owned by the Genii Capital investment group, had already significantly increased Russia's presence in the sport by making Vitaly Petrov the country's first ever Formula 1 driver. The signing of the 24-year-old Russian now appears to have paved the way for the Lada tie-up, with the manufacturer's logo to appear on Renault's R30 car and Petrov's overalls and team uniform.Lada's first F1 involvement has been endorsed by Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin and Renault team chairman Gerard Lopez says the squad is proud to be providing the platform for the country to get involved in motorsport's top series.  We are proud to announce this new agreement, which marks another important step for the Renault F1 Team and Formula 1 in Russia, said Lopez.Through Mangrove Capital we have been actively investing in Russia over the last years. We know the country well, we have a high degree of appreciation for it and, as such, it is an honour for our F1 team to spearhead Russia's entry into the sport and to carry the Lada brand at the highest level of world motorsport. We look forward to an exciting and successful season together. In 2008 Renault bought a 25% stake in Lada owner AvtoVAZ, with the brand now part of the Renault-Nissan-Lada group.
