Lewis Hamilton is being investigated by police in New Zealand on suspicion of filming himself on his mobile while riding a motorbike, according to reports.

The Formula One world champion is understood to have posted two videos on the Snapchat video-sharing site that appear to show him riding a Harley Davidson along a motorway in Auckland.

In New Zealand it has been an offence to use a mobile phone while driving a vehicle since 2009.

In one of the videos Hamilton, 31, appears to be joining the motorway from an entry road and another shows him riding the motorbike before panning to show other traffic.

A spokesman told the New Zealand Herald that police are reviewing the footage and would "take a strong stance on any activity which places undue risk on the lives on any person on the road".
