Russian Grand Prix Statfile

The Formula One circus travels to Sochi for the second Russian Grand Prix this weekend.

Here, Press Association Sport has compiled a list of the best statistics and trivia heading into round 15 of the campaign.

-Lewis Hamilton matched Ayrton Senna's career tally of 41 victories in Japan. Only Sebastian Vettel (42), Alain Prost (51) and Michael Schumacher (91) have won more grands prix than the British world champion.

-Hamilton is bidding to become the ninth driver in F1 history to win the first two races at a venue new to the calendar after he triumphed at last year's inaugural race in Sochi. Most recently, Vettel won back-to-back races in India and Abu Dhabi while Schumacher won the Pacific Grand Prix in 1994 and 1995.

-Hamilton topped every practice session in Sochi last year, before claiming pole position and leading every lap en route to victory. He was denied a "Grand Slam" by the Williams of Valtteri Bottas, who posted the fastest lap.

-Hamilton's Mercedes team clinched the constructors' championship at this venue last year, and the Silver Arrows are on course to repeat that feat in 2015. Mercedes need to score just three more points than Ferrari on Sunday to win the team title with four races to spare.

-It is worth noting that only Brawn, who won the constructors' title in 2009, have failed to defend their team crown in the last decade.

-The Japanese Grand Prix probably saw the last 17-year-old to take part in a Formula One race after Max Verstappen celebrated his 18th birthday last week. Following Verstappen's arrival in the sport, the minimum age limit of a grand prix driver has increased to 18.

-Jenson Button will become only the driver in F1 history to compete in more than 300 grands prix after he extended his stay with McLaren into next season. The Briton, who is on 282 race starts, is behind only Schumacher (308) and Rubens Barrichello (326) in the all-time appearance list.

-The Sochi Autodrom is the newest venue to join the F1 calendar, with the track winding its way through the site that hosted the Winter Olympics last year.

-At 5.853km in length, it is the third longest circuit on the current calendar behind Silverstone (5.891km) and Spa (7.004km).
