United States Grand Prix Statfile

Formula One heads to Circuit of the Americas for this week's United States Grand Prix.

Here, Press Association Sport takes a look at the key trivia and statistics ahead of the 18th round of the championship.

* Nico Rosberg is 33 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton following his victory in Japan. The German can now afford to finish second on three occasions and third once in the remaining four grands prix and still seal his maiden world championship.

* Rosberg secured his ninth victory of the season and first in Suzuka. Only three other drivers have won more grands prix in a year. Michael Schumacher (13 in 2004 and 11 in 2002), Sebastian Vettel (13 in 2001 and 11 in 2002) and Lewis Hamilton (10 in 2014 and 11 in 2015). Indeed no driver has won nine races and not claimed the championship.

* Mercedes sealed their third consecutive constructors' title in Japan. Mercedes are the fifth team - after Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Red Bull - to achieve such a feat. Ferrari hold the record with six in a row.

* Hamilton is now on a winless streak which stretches back to July's German Grand Prix, a run of five grands prix. He is still chasing his 50th career victory. Only Michael Schumacher (91) and Alain Prost (51) have won more races in the sport's history.

* Hamilton, however, did seal the 100th podium finish of his career in Japan. Schumacher recorded 155 during his career, while Prost finished in the top three on 106 occasions.

* The Briton has a good record in Austin having won three of the four races staged here since 2012. Last year's race in Austin was also the scene for this third world title.

* Vettel, the only other driver to win in Austin, has led 95 laps at Circuit of the Americas. That is more than Hamilton (76) and Rosberg (44).

* Austin is the sixth venue to stage a grand prix in the United States. Circuit of the Americas (COTA) follows in the footsteps of Sebring (1959), Riverside (1960), Watkins Glen (1961-80), Phoenix (1989-91) and Indianapolis (2000-07).

* COTA is one of only four anti-clockwise tracks on this year's calendar - Singapore, Interlagos and Abu Dhabi are the others.
