Formula One's tyre supplier Pirelli was forced to cancel a test in Italy after Sebastian Vettel was involved in a crash.

The four-time world champion hit the barriers at Ferrari's Fiorano test track on Thursday and sustained irreparable damage to his car.

A spokesperson for Vettel, who completed 44 laps before the incident, said he was "okay", but Pirelli subsequently scrapped the remainder of the two-day wet-tyre test.

Ferrari test driver Antonio Giovinazzi was scheduled to run on Friday before the postponement.

Pirelli will introduce a new-specification tyre this year following changes to the sport's technical regulations.

The first official Formula One test of the new campaign starts in Barcelona later this month with Melbourne hosting the season opener on March 26.
