Webber: I'm still a title contender

Mark Webber says he still regards himself as a title contender and is confident he can keep the pressure on the top three in the championship in the second half of the season.

While his Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel has grabbed the headlines and is seen as Jenson Button's main potential rival, Webber has proved to be more than a match for the young German.

He is just 3.5 points behind Vettel in the standings, and while the latter has had the edge in qualifying, there has been little to choose between the pair in the races. "I'm getting some pretty good results," said Webber.

"I've had very consistent Sunday afternoons."

Saturday is crucial, we know that, in terms of how tight it is between the four of us, and especially in the last few events.

"I'm still very confident that I can haul some good points in the future. "Whether it's enough to be consistently ahead remains to be seen. "I'm out there and yeah, I'm very happy with my performances so far this year." Webber reckons the next few races could close things up in the title battle.

"It doesn't take much to turn things round, so I'm looking forward to the Nurburgring," he said. "It could be mixed conditions and then we've got Budapest. "There are some good races coming up which will test us again and I'm looking forward to it."
