GPUpdateBrundle steals Magny-Cours pole 14 May 2011 Alex Brundle will start the first race of the weekend at Magny-Cours from pole position after topping the timesheets during a qualifying session that began in damp conditions. The Briton posted his personal best effort of 1:30.754 in the final moments to edge out Christopher Zanella and Friday pace-setter Miki Monrás. A rain shower earlier in the day ensured a damp start to qualifying, with the surface beginning to dry up towards the end of the 30 minute session. The top three runners were all able to make it under the 1:31.000 barrier before the chequered flag fell, while Ramón Piñeiro had to settle for final spot on the second row. Championship leader Mirko Bortolotti could do not better than fifth in the session, finishing just 0.017 ahead of Tobias Hegewald. British trio Jack Clarke, Will Bratt and James Cole were next up, while Mihai Marinescu edged out series newcomer Jon Lancaster for the final spot inside the top ten. Race 1 begins at 2pm local time (BST +1)
