GPUpdateMac tops opening practice in Germany 1 July 2011Mikkel Mac was the fastest man during first practice at the Nürburgring this morning, lapping the 4.556-km (2.831-mi) German venue in a time of 1:51.199 to top the timesheets by 0.166 seconds. The 18-year-old Dane finished ahead of championship leader Mirko Bortolotti, while Armaan Ebrahim completed the top three. An early morning downpour ensured a slippery track surface as the session got underway, but the track gradually improved as the clock ticked down. Will Bratt, who recorded his maiden Formula 2 victory at Spa last time out, finished the session in fourth place, just ahead of fellow Briton Jack Clarke. Miki Monrás was next up in sixth place, while category newcomer Jordan King continued to impress at only his second F2 event. Young German Tobias Hegewald grabbed eighth, little more than a tenth faster than Christopher Zanella and Alex Brundle who completed the top ten. Practice 2 begins at 1.25pm local time (BST 1)
