Formula 2 news Stoneman fastest in first session at Snetterton07 April 2010 / PhotosDean Stoneman topped the opening session on day two at Snetterton, as the British driver pipped his compatriot Jolyon Palmer by just 0.099s.
With circuit conditions improving, an impressive 17 drivers dipped under the one minute barrier in a fast paced and exciting opening hour of running. Johan Jokinen briefly held top spot with a 59.119s lap time, before Armaan Ebrahim became the first driver to set a time in the 58s bracket. The Indian racer instantly bettered his own benchmark to set a 58.871s lap time, but his effort was only good enough for third at the finish. In a frantic final five minutes Jolyon Palmer looked as though he had secured the quickest lap with a 58.634s time, but Dean Stoneman crossed the line as the chequered flag waved to set the fastest time of the test so far. Mihai Marinescu impressed by setting the fifth fastest lap ahead of Formula Palmer Audi graduate Paul Rees. Jack Clarke left it late after a mixed session, but the young Englishman's final lap was good enough for seventh. Tom Gladdis, Benjamin Bailly and Nicola De Marco rounded out the top ten.
