GP3 news Wickens joins Status in GP331 March 2010GP3 Series organisers have confirmed that Canada's Robert Wickens will make the transition to the championship for its inaugural season in 2010. The 21-year-old registered a strong season in Formula 2 last year, finishing runner-up to Champion Andy Soucek after scoring two wins. Having dominated the first F2 race of 2009, Wickens repeated the feat in Round 2 but was dogged by mechanic problems for much of the season, eventually finishing the year 51 points behind Soucek. For 2010, the Ontario man will follow much of the Formula 1 calendar courtesy of new role in GP3. Wickens, seen here in GP3 testing action at Paul Ricard"GP3 is a very good fit for me because we're at F1 Grands Prix and it'll be a great way to highlight myself and show I'm ready to step up to F1 in 2011," he said, having tested for the Status team at Paul Ricard earlier this month. "Having driven the GP3 car with Status, it made me even more eager to find the necessary funding to participate; it's been a big effort by many people in Canada and I'm also very grateful to Status GP for showing faith in me - together, we're targeting nothing less than the championship."
