Lloyd slams Cunha after Spa clash

Date published : 31 Jul 2011 - 11:16:20

Hywel Lloyd has called on series officials to take action against rival Yann Cunha following their collision in the 40-minute British Formula 3 feature race at Spa yesterday. The pair made contact after the second part of Fagnes on the opening lap of yesterday's race. T-Sport racer Cunha continued to a 21st place finish (which became 20th when Hitech's Pietro Fantin was later excluded from the results), while Lloyd retired after spearing into the wall.Officials are still investigating the incident, which Lloyd estimates caused at least ?15,000 worth of damage to his Sino Vision-run Dallara-Mercedes."I had a bit of a poor run out of Turn 11 and knew he was in my tow," explained Lloyd, who received a five-place grid penalty ahead of the finale for hitting Cunha's team-mate Menasheh Idafar in race two. "So I went for my one move to the inside and he [Cunha] just hit my rear diffuser and destroyed me into the wall."How do you pass somebody by hitting their rear diffuser? It's not the way I want to go racing. It seems to be the same people causing these accidents and hopefully something will be done about it because something needs to be done."Carlin's Rupert Svendsen-Cook was directly behind the incident and had to take to the grass to avoid Lloyd's car. Having narrowly squeezed between Lloyd and the barrier under full throttle, the Briton described himself as "lucky to be alive" after the race.
