Scheider tops Lausitz warm-up

Date published : 19 Jun 2011 - 08:28:17

Timo Scheider gave himself hope of a strong race performance by topping DTM warm-up at Lausitz. The Abt Audi driver will start Sunday's race from back in ninth place, but was quickest during the morning session with a time of 1m20.302s set five minutes from the end. Gary Paffett was second fastest - 0.091s slower than Scheider - in his HWA Mercedes, while Oliver Jarvis (Abt) continued his strong recent form with the third best time. The best of the drivers in old-spec machinery was Christian Vietoris, who took his Persson Mercedes to fourth. Maro Engel, who qualified back in 16th, was an improved sixth in his Mucke Mercedes ahead of Jamie Green (HWA) and Filipe Albuquerque (Rosberg Audi). Martin Tomczyk (Phoenix Audi), David Coulthard (Mucke) and Susie Stoddart (Persson) rounded out the top 10, while polesitter and championship leader Bruno Spengler (HWA) was back in 14th. The times continued to be remarkably close, with two-time series champion Mattias Ekstrom (Abt) less than 0.5s off the pace in 17th. Times to follow...
