Estoril to host LMS finale

Date published : 11 Dec 2010 - 10:28:43

The Le Mans Series has finalised its 2011 calendar by confirming Estoril as the last round of the championship.A six-hour race in Portugal had been scheduled for the season-closer on 23-25 September next year with the circuit still to be advised, and Estoril has now been picked as the venue. The LMS has visited Portugal for the past two seasons, but has so far used the new Portimao circuit rather than former Formula 1 track Estoril. The sportscar championship's 2011 visit will be the first major sports prototype event at Estoril since it last hosted the FIA Sportscar Championship in 2003. The track was also used for a round of the shortlived European Le Mans Series in 2001.The Estoril event will - along with the Paul Ricard opener - be one of only two LMS events next year that is not part of the new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. The Spa, Imola and Silverstone races will all count for both the ILMC and LMS.
