McNish eyes return to top with Audi

Allan McNish is determined to restore Audi pride at this year's Le Mans 24-hour race.

The 40-year-old Scot spearheads Audi's three-car bid to return to the top of the podium after Peugeot ended the German manufacturing giant's five-year winning streak last year.

"Audi has finished on the rostrum every year since making its Le Mans debut in 1999, but having won eight times, last year's third place was an under-par performance," remarked McNish.

"Audi and I have the same desire to go back to France this year and win, but it will be a difficult challenge against Peugeot and Aston Martin, so we'll need to be at our top level."

Ahead of the June 12-13 event, Audi have named their drivers with McNish again partnered by record eight-time winner Tom Kristensen from Denmark and Italian Dindo Capello for a fifth successive year.

McNish continued: "With Tom and Dindo in my car, plus our team-mates in the other two Audis, I know we have the best driver line-up, team personnel in the pits, and car to do the job."

The second Audi R15 TDI will be shared by German duo Timo Bernhard and Mike Rockenfeller, along with Romain Dumas from France.

The third car will be driven by a trio of new signings in Marcel Fassler from Switzerland, Belgian Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer from France.
