Italian Andrea Iannone will join Suzuki for 2017 and 2018 after Ducati brought reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo into the stable.

Iannone, 26, has raced for Ducati since 2013 and currently partners his countryman Andrea Dovizioso, but the capture of Spaniard Lorenzo from Yamaha for next season meant one of the Italians would have to move on.

Suzuki announced the capture of Iannone with a statement on their official website, days after the Japanese team confirmed 21-year-old Maverick Vinales was to leave after the 2016 campaign, which ends in November.

Vinales, last year's best rookie, has signed for Yamaha, where he will race alongside seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi. The 37-year-old recently agreed a new deal.

Suzuki team manager Davide Brivio said of Iannone: "We are happy to have enrolled Andrea in our team for the next two years. He is one of the top riders in MotoGP and he is also very passionate and motivated, which fits into our racing philosophy.

"Andrea is a fast rider who has the hunger for success and his riding style could suit our machine's characteristics, therefore giving us good hopes for a positive partnership. Being in his fourth year in MotoGP he's also an experienced rider, from which the whole team will benefit."
