Ashley Sutton was controversially stripped of his second British Touring Car Championship win of the season after his Triple Eight Racing MG team were excluded from race one at Silverstone for a 'technical infringement'.

Sutton took the flag ahead of team-mate Josh Cook in a bruising contest, but the pair were later disqualified due to their the rear wings being outside of the allowed tolerance, handing victory to third-placed Tom Ingram ( Speedworks Motorsport ).

Andrew Jordan (Motorbase Performance) and Rob Austin (Handy Motorsport) were promoted from fourth and fifth respectively to complete the podium.

Jordan then held off Adam Morgan (WIX Racing) to win the second race of the day, with Ingram third.

Reigning champion Gordon Shedden (Halfords Yuasa Racing) won the final race of the day ahead of Mat Jackson (Motorbase Performance) and Rob Collard (Team JCT600 with GardX) to set up a thrilling title showdown at Brands Hatch early next month.

Scotsman Shedden now sits second in the championship table on 267 points, 11 behind leader Sam Tordoff (Team JCT600 with GardX) and two ahead of third-placed Matt Neal ( Halfords Yuasa Racing). Collard (261) is fourth, with Jackson (257) fifth and Jordan (247) sixth.
