Home favourite Jorge Lorenzo dominated the opening two practice sessions of the Spanish MotoGP - topping the timesheets in both runs.

The Yamaha rider currently sits fourth in the championship standings but was untouchable on Friday as he goes in search of his first win in Jerez since 2011.

Lorenzo clocked a time of one minute 39.174 seconds in first practice and, although he was just over a tenth of a second slower in the afternoon session, he still went quickest.

Fellow Spaniard Marc Marquez was second for Honda despite racing with a fractured finger, while their compatriot Aleix Espargaro was the closest man to Lorenzo in the morning.

Championship leader Valentino Rossi ended the day down in 13th but there was better news for the Ducati pair of Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso, who finished third and fourth respectively.

Espargaro dropped to fifth in the second session, with Danilo Petrucci's Ducati sixth and Cal Crutchlow seventh for Honda.

Pol Espargaro came home eighth with Maverick Vinales and Scott Redding completing the top 10.
