Satisfying sixth starts 2010 for De Puniet

Randy de Puniet followed up his impressive qualification at Losail with sixth place in the opening race of the season, thus securing his first points of the 2010 season.
The Frenchman started the race from the second row of the grid having qualified as the fourth fastest rider and after losing some positions in the opening lap he worked his way back up to cross the line in sixth position, making him the second highest placing Honda behind factory rider Andrea Dovizioso.
I'm satisfied, finishing in the top six at the first race is very good. I was very close to the podium, said De Puniet. I had a good start but in the straight there was a lot going on. Dani had a good start and he touched Capirossi, so I needed to come off the throttle and I lost a lot of places which meant I was ninth after the first lap.
After that I pushed a lot to try and catch up with the leading group, and in the middle of the race I had a good pace. However, after 15 laps I made a mistake in the first corner and lost the chance to come back. After that I decided to finish in sixth, and to keep this place was very good.
It was De Puniet's best finish in the MotoGP class at the circuit, where he had previously managed a highest placement of ninth in 2008, and was the result of a winter of progress.
The hard work we have put in during the winter and the adjustments to the mapping for the race have helped us to get this positive result in the first round of the season, De Puniet concluded.
