18 July 1955: Stirling Moss becomes the first Briton to win a British Grand Prix at Aintree, with Mercedes taking the first four placesStirling Moss, driving a Mercédès-Benz, won the British Grand Prix here to-day. This was his first victory in a Grand Prix race, and the first victory by a British driver in a British Grand Prix. There the novelty ends. To-day’s race was simply another demonstration of the present superiority of German racing cars. Mercédès entered four cars, and the four, with never a pit stop, finished first, second, third, and fourth.
