Jordan eyeing V8 drive for Surfers

Date published : 05 Jan 2011 - 10:13:30

British Touring Car Championship race-winner Andrew Jordan is hunting a V8 Supercar drive later this year in the series' international event at Surfers Paradise.Last year's Gold Coast 600 attracted the likes of Dario Franchitti, Yvan Muller and Jacques Villeneuve, each sharing a V8 Supercar with a series regular at the Queensland street circuit.Jordan, who has yet to confirm his BTCC plans for this season, believes the Ford Falcon or Holden Commodore machines would suit his driving style."It's something I've always liked the look of," he told AUTOSPORT. "Powerful, rear-wheel drive machines with locked rear diffs - it takes me back to when I did rallycross a couple of years ago."When I was on the MSA Race Elite programme, [director] David Brabham put me in touch with some teams in Australia and we've put some feelers out there."I was talking to teams already this time last year, but realistically I wasn't ready and needed to focus on BTCC. Now I think I'm ready for it and I've been hearing some pretty positive things."Jordan, who won twice in the BTCC last year on his way to 10th in the championship, would not reveal which teams he has been in talks with. He did, however, rule himself out of competing at either of the championship's big endurance races; the Phillip Island 500 and the Bathurst 1000."Ideally I'd look to do the enduros as well, but Phillip Island clashes with the BTCC round at Rockingham and Bathurst is the week between the last two races, so they're both out," he added."I can't say I have a definitive plan for where I want to race in the future, but I certainly want to be earning a living from racing and there are some good opportunities to do that in Australia."
