DAste to return with Wiechers

Date published : 27 Jun 2011 - 10:54:53

Stefano D'Aste will return to the World Touring Car Championship at Porto this weekend after rejoining the Wiechers-Sport BMW team. The 37-year-old Italian, who has competed in the GT4 European Cup so far this year, replaces Urs Sonderegger, who has left the team. "I am over the moon," D'Aste said. "I feel honoured to receive this call from Wiechers-Sport and am extremely excited to return to WTCC. "I love Porto, because [it] is a very demanding track, though I am aware that racing there without having tested the car will be tough. I'm also eager to drive the BMW 320 TC. I have heard good things about it and I was impressed by looking at the engine data when I visited the team a few days ago." D'Aste has been a BMW regular in the WTCC since 2005 and has competed for both Wiechers and Proteam in 320si machinery. In 2007 he was the series independents' champion.
