Okyay to return at Monza

Date published : 02 May 2011 - 11:35:54

Ibrahim Okyay will make his World Touring Car Championship return at Monza next weekend. The 41-year-old Turk has won five domestic tin-top titles in his homeland and claimed fourth place in last year's European Touring Car Cup at the wheel of the same Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport BMW 320si that he will race in Italy. "Although we managed to achieve brilliant results in the ETCC and in Turkey, we are aware of how difficult is to be successful in the WTCC," Okyay said. "I don't think that the BMW 320si may be competitive against the 1.6 turbo cars. But it's good to be back in the World Championship, because our plan is to compete in the whole season in 2012 and the races in Monza will help us to understand where we are." Okyay made his WTCC debut in 2006, but has not competed on the world scene since '08, when he finished sixth in the independents' standings, but did not score an overall point.
