Elfyn Evans has lead cut by Thierry Neuville at Rally Argentina

Britain's Elfyn Evans held on to the lead on day three of the Rally Argentina by just 11.5 seconds from Thierry Neuville to set up an exciting final day.

The 28-year-old Welshman, who won each of Friday's first six stages, claimed victory in the following day's opening stage in his Ford Fiesta but came home fifth, eighth, fourth and sixth (twice) in the day's remaining stages to see his overnight lead cut from 55.7secs to 11.5 due to a number of problems.

Evans suffered a slow puncture in the 11th stage and then his aerodynamic rear diffuser was ripped off after a bad landing which affected his handling of the car as Belgian Neuville (Hyundai) closed in on the rally leader after wins on the final two stages of the day.

Estonia's Ott Tanak (Ford Fiesta) sits just 8.3secs behind Neuville in third after coming home fastest on stage 13 with four-times world champion and championship leader Sebastien Ogier currently fourth ahead of Sunday's final three stages.

Evans told wrc.com: "We had no major problems, just a lot of niggly things. There was something strange with the rear, the car was soft and oversteering and I didn't feel comfortable.

"We didn't come here to finish second after all this work, so if he (Neuville) wants the win, he's going to have to fight for it."

Fellow Briton Kris Meeke restarted on Saturday after rolling his Citroen C3 the previous day and won two stages (11 and 12) before rolling out for a second time in the penultimate stage 14.
