Highly-rated Valtteri Bottas expressed his delight for the Williams team on Sunday after scoring his first points in Formula One by finishing eighth in the United States Grand Prix.

"It is a great day and I am very happy for the team," he said, knowing his effort had given the team a great chance of finishing ninth in the teams' championship.

"We have finally got some points for me as well -- four points. We did a really good job today, the strategy, the race start, the pit-stop, everyone from the team did such a good job so I really felt that we deserved it."

Bottas, who is staying with the team next season, shone all weekend at the Circuit of the Americas while moody team-mate Pastor Maldonado became embroiled in problems and accused the team of sabotage.

Bottas said he felt the car handled much better than it had earlier in the season and he is hoping that will allow people to see his full potential.

He added: "Once we have more speed, like this weekend, then people will see more what you can do in the car.

"These positions are starting to get closer and they are what I am aiming for and what we are aiming for together."
