Singapore Grand Prix statfile

Singapore plays host to the 15th round of the championship following the close of the European leg of the season in Italy.

Here, Press Association Sport takes a look at the key statistics and trivia ahead of Sunday's race at the Marina Bay Circuit.

* Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg claimed his second victory in two races following his triumph at the Italian Grand Prix. Rosberg, two points adrift of Lewis Hamilton in the championship, has led 96 of the last 97 laps since the summer break.

* Rosberg has now won seven races this season which is more than he managed in 2014 (five) and last year (six), too.

* The Singapore Grand Prix will mark Rosberg's 200th start in the sport. He made his debut at the 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix and since moving to Mercedes in 2010 he has taken 21 victories and 28 poles.

* Rosberg, however, is yet to win at the Marina Bay Circuit. Indeed only world champions have triumphed at the sport's first night race with Sebastian Vettel (four), Fernando Alonso (two) and Lewis Hamilton (two) winning here.

* Winning in Singapore has been a good omen for the championship, too. Indeed four of the last five winners here have gone on to claim the championship.

* Hamilton claimed his 98th grand prix podium finish at the last race in Monza to move clear of Alonso in third in the all-time list. Only Michael Schumacher (155) and Alain Prost (106) have more top-three finishes.

* Hamilton is also bidding for his 50th win here. Again, only Schumacher (91) and Prost (51) have won more grands prix in the sport's history.

* The Singapore Grand Prix is one of the most physically demanding on the calender. In the last four seasons, three have been stopped by the clock (two hours) rather than the lap count.

* The safety car has also been deployed at least once in each of the eight previous races in Singapore. In total, it has been needed on 12 occasions.
