Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo fastest in Silverstone practice

Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo set the pace in practice for Sunday's British Grand Prix.

The Spaniard, who is bidding for fourth victory at Silverstone, posted a best lap of two minutes 02.238 seconds.

Marc Marquez, the defending MotoGP champion who topped the timesheets in the opening session, was just 0.033secs adrift of his Spanish compatriot.

Valtentino Rossi, who is level on 211 points with Lorenzo in the battle for the MotoGP title, could manage only 10th.

The nine-time champion was the best part of one second slower than his Yamaha team-mate Lorenzo.

Briton's Bradley Smith was an impressive third in front of his home crowd with Dani Pedrosa next up on his Honda.

Andrea Dovizioso finished the session in fifth with Aleix Espargaro sixth for Suzuki.
